A Night 110 Years in the Making!!

The year was 1916, one hundred and forty years into our country's history. The people of Bridgeboro got together and determined it was time to have a fire company in Delran. Since then, there have been many dedicated volunteers who have come and gone. Many of these members holding membership for 70 plus years. This year marks the 250th anniversary of our country and also the 110th anniversary of Delran Fire Company No. 1 (Bridgeboro Fire Company, to some).

On April 17th, 2026, the current active members and life members came together at The Merion in Cinnaminson to honor and pay tribute to the many men and women that have given their all and dropped whatever they were doing at moment's notice to respond to someone's worst day ever. Knowing that at any one of those calls they might have to give the ultimate sacrifice.

Great fellowship abounded as members shared in past experiences. Some members coming from as far away as Virginia Beach, Va. to share the night. The night began, as members indulged in a spread of appetizers, leaving nothing out. The master of ceremony, Chris Harvey set the mood for a great night of fun and entertainment.

The evening was highlighted with awards to members reaching milestones within the company. Some of the milestones included members marking 50 and even 60 plus years of membership. Other awards were given for “number of calls” including two members with more than 8000 calls. Proclamations were received from the township and state for the 110 years of service to the Township of Delran and the State of New Jersey. All members received a gift bag with personalized certificates thanking them for their individual contributions. The event was topped off by a meal fit for a king. Afterwards the members enjoyed dancing and conversing.

In closing it was a great night of fellowship and catching up with old friends. Many have quoted “Once a firefighter, always a firefighter”. This was a night that proved it. The names may have changed over the years, but the pride of a job well done hasn’t. The members of Delran Fire Company No. 1 can take pride in knowing that they have been committed for 110 years as all volunteers.

Who knows what the future will hold for our company but for sure the legacy of the first 110 years will stand for itself. The men and women who have fought the dragon know they are part of a family that extends generations.
